This is a fantastic museum displaying the history of the area from Native American artifacts up to modern times. The quality is as good or better than any national park. The cabins and Old Time Village were authentic and well-preserved with interesting contents from the time period. The grounds are beautifully landscaped and cared for meticulously. We spent about 2 hours but could have stayed longer if we'd had the time.

Nice little museum with inside galleries and an Appalachian village out back. The historic structures are from the early 1800's to the the 1960's. There is a $6 charge to tour the outside village and museum but there are three structures out front you can see for free.

We came across the Heritage Center while touring the Smoky Mountains via auto. We stopped to check out the place. This staff at the front desk was welcoming and admission costs nominal we toured the Center. The museum has terrific educative displays of the history of the region with all sorts of artifacts and explanations. I was more than impressed with their notes that some items were missing in that they were conferring with native peoples of the region on the authenticity of their displays and explanations. The out building were reconstructed from donated building and were very informative of the life of early settlers. This grounds were neatly kept and the first daffodils of spring were blooming, in general a pleasant spring day to tour.

I just spent 2 enjoyable hours wandering the museum, watching the short video and walking around and/or in the historic buildings. Lots of history of first the native Americans (on the museum part) and then settlers who toiled to make this area home. It really makes you appreciate being born in this current time.

The also have an old car/buggy/cart/sled/etc section in a connected side building.

Well worth the $12 admission
