If you are looking for cooler temps and trees for days this is your spot. Located just 2 hours from Phoenix this scenic drive is a perfect day trip get away. Great for hiking, fishing and camping and dog freindly. If you hike around the lake wear good hiking shoes while its trailed there is some rocky terrain.

Place is beautiful until you notice the thousand hooks, the fishing line all over the places, worm containers ECT. Don't recommend children swimming, or dogs. I pulled two hooks from my dogs paws and had to untie and cut multiple yards of fishing line that was strung along the bank of lake.

Basically only complaint is the trash, finishing line and hooks. But that can take quite of bit of respect from the ones who run it.

Woods canyon is beautiful, but better to visit during the week. Parking lots are full early. Elk routinely come in to camp to feed. 10 degrees cooler than town of payson. Lots of picture opportunities!

Stunningly beautiful! Took the family on a 3ish mile hike around the lake and it was picture perfect. The weather was nice, cool breeze, not too hot. The trail around the lake is clearly marked and easy to follow. Eager to come back and spend some time on the lake.

We stayed at the group campsite. The host were great think it was Bob and his wife forgot her name. Very friendly. The site had over 10 spots and we had a great time. ?

Even on a very crowded day, we managed to enjoy our stay in here, very clean air and beautiful scenery, nice water with plenty of fishes, facilities are also clean and bunch of space for parking, campgrounds are close enough, but not to close and that works pretty good, the best part about this lake is that gasoline motor boasts are prohibited to run, only small electric motors boasts, and kayaks, also walking around whole lake is simply joy, I will definitely recommend this for others people who enjoys beautiful nature.

Beautiful atmosphere, easygoing campgrounds. Easy to see if there is availability and open camp grounds. The restrooms where maintained and clean (as they could be). We had the best camp hosts everytime we have gone (3 years) throughout the seasons. We love the leisure of being able to fish, boat, walk or bike. The wildlife is amazing to see! I wish people would clean up after themselves better around the lake; its beautiful why leave your trash behind?
