This nondescript location - that you can easily miss - marks the spot that ended the final chapter of the King Philip's War, a sad era in our nation's history, and a tragic end for the Pokanokets, who aided the pilgrims after the winter of starvation.

Sad to think about what happened here. It was really wet and slippery when we were there so use caution. You can climb to the top of the rock. Trail was very overgrown with vegetation.

It is so easy to pass without noticing. When we went it was warm so it was buggy. It is worth the visit as it is a local piece of a much larger history.

Historical landmark. I feel only peace there. Please don't litter and clean up after your dogs! Be respectful!

It's a very short and easy walk from the parking area to the rock. There are a couple of benches there. There is a small path around to the back of the rock that can be hard to navigate if you have any physical difficulties

We visited this rock a few years ago. We stayed past dark & could hear drums in the beat of how Native American drumming would sound coming from one direction for a very long time. It was an amazing experience. I took a few pictures, and also a video trying to capture the sounds coming from in the distance. But it was so far I don't think you could hear it on my video. I own a book that reads about the rock during the last 6 pages. It's very cool.

Interesting little historic sight. Easy hike to the rock. Maybe a 10-15 minute stop at the most.

On August 28, 1676, Captain Benjamin Church and his group of colonial soldiers captured Anawan, the war chief of the Pocasset People. He was an old man at the time, and a chief captain of Metacomet, who had been captured and killed by the colonists two weeks earlier. The capture of Anawan marked the final event in King Philip's War.[2] Although Church promised to spare Anawan's life upon his capture, he was ultimately executed by colonial officials.[3] Anawan Rock is one of the few physical sites from the war still intact.

It's a cool place to stop by and try to imagine what it was like for the natives that were captured there. There isn't much more than the large rock. I couldn't find any trails.
