day 3 (10jun24) sanctuary 7:
3 entrances, extensive trail network between them. from allen's neck entrance, i followed woodland loop past cows at round-the-bend farm to boulder loop thru extensive fields to grassland loop. the erratic boulders are huge, bigger than an f350. lots of cool wildflowers today (e.g. wild geranium near parking, rattlebox in fields is new to me). great egret in tidal marsh. enjoyed view across fields from all-accessible path at stone barn entrance. walked along cobbled beach at field station entrance, two more great egrets in allen's pond, osprey chased one along road as i returned to parking lot.

I have driven past this wildlife sanctuary many times but finally stopped to walk part of it early one June morning. I think it is one of the most beautiful places in Massachusetts if you like the views of salt marshes and pristine beaches. The paths are well maintained and most of them are very flat. I would strongly encourage you to visit if you want to see shore birds or views of pristine coastal salt marshes.

Ive been here plenty of times. Its muddy in certain spots. Wear hiking boots to go over the rocks and streams. If u like salt marshes and watching Ospreys then youll like it here. So pretty. They maintain the trails well.
