Our family got the pleasure of going on a rafting trip with Traverse Alaska. It was an unforgettable experience. Our guide, Joe, was fantastic. His extensive knowledge of the region made the trip not only safe but, incredibly informative. Safety was clearly the top priority of Joe, which put the family at ease. I can’t say enough how the private group tour is the way to go. Joe and Buckwheat made the setup so easy. We had a family of 7 and it was very enjoyable. Thank you Joe for making it such a special experience. Overall, I highly recommend Traverse Alaska for anyone looking for an adventure with Traverse Alaska.

We chose Traverse Alaska as an alternative to the overcrowded National Park bus tours.

Prior to our trip, Traverse reached out to us with detailed instructions on what to pack and bring, ensuring that we were well-prepared for our hike. Our guide, Vicki, picked us up from our hotel and drove us to Denali State Park. We had 4 novice backcountry hikers in our group (74 yo, 68 yo, 38 yo, and 36 yo), and Vicki did a great job of tailoring the hike to our individual needs.

It was already Fall in Denali and sight of termination snow in the distance served as a reminder that winter was just around the corner. We learned a lot about life in the tundra and what it takes to survive a forbidding climate like Denali. It was a fantastic day, and I highly recommend Traverse Alaska to those seeking to discover Denali without the crowds.

Tip: I wish we had booked Traverse Alaska to pick us up from the Whittier cruise ship terminal and drive us to Denali. This would have saved us a 12.5 hour train ride with 89 people.

My husband, brother, and I did a day trip rafting and hiking with Traverse Alaska. It was a great personalized experience for what we wanted. Our guide Jan was fantastic - friendly, personable, very informative about the Alaskan flora and fauna. Our rafting guide Country was also great - fun stories and made sure we had a good time! We lucked out with a beautiful sunny day too! Highly recommend!

AWESOME!! We originally just had Traverse Alaska booked for a scenic transfer from Anchorage to Denali. Joe (the owner) was our driver and he was very kind and knowledgeable. After talking with him throughout the drive, we decided to book a rafting trip for the next day through Traverse. Molly picked us up from the hotel, then took us to their boat house where we met Buckwheat and Louise, as well as Joe, and they got us set up with dry suits and water proof shoes for the adventure. They then drove us to the start of the raft adventure. It was just our family in the boat with Buckwheat and Joe in the safety boat. AMAZING!! We had a great time. At the end of the river, Molly and Louise had benches and a carpeted area set up for us to change out of our dry suits and back into our shoes. Molly dropped us off to eat dinner instead of going back to our hotel. Would 100% recommend this company to anyone coming to the Denali area.

I had an incredible hike in August with Joe. I'm a somewhat novice hiker, and we ended up accomplishing a much greater hike than I thought possible. He picked the perfect mountain to climb, taking breaks as I needed. I enjoyed the great views, including seeing 50+ dall sheep gathered on a neighboring peak. Joe shared lots of information regarding the plants, terrain, animals, etc. And he successfully motivated me to do a hike and see views that I would never have experienced without the right guide. Traverse really catered to my skill level and desired hike, and I was lucky they were able to schedule this hike within 24 hours of my contacting them. Thanks Joe and Traverse!

Traverse Alaska took us on a fantastic custom guided backpacking trip in the wilds of Alaska.
Traverse is an excellent highly experienced guide service - they are highly organized, excellent gear, excellent attitude - really the best - highly recommend if you want to backpack Alaska but do its size and difference- entirely trail-less- want a guide on your first foray -- no stress, no worries - just a great adventure!
Even though we are experienced backpackers we had never been to Alaska and had only a small window to squeezing in a trip.
With short notice Traverse worked with us to define an area and arranged for a bush plane drop into the wilderness- also a new amazing experience for us.
We backpacked with Joe through de novo a route he designed with us with flexible changes as we went - wide open in a trail-less massive wilderness - that took us from tree line to tundra to some of the amazing high cirques and high ridges - beautiful-- wildflowers, wildlife, fantastic see forever views. Awesome guide- highly experienced, easy going, adventurous. Traverse is an excellent guide service - they are highly organized, excellent gear, excellent attitude - really the best- highly recommend if you want to backpack Alaska but do its size and difference- entirely trail-less- want a guide on your first foray -- no stress, no worries - just a great adventure!
