My husband and I did the scenic train ride. It was a fun experience even though we didn't get to go all the way through to our end destination due to one of the other trains breaking down so our train had to turn around and go back to where we started. I was glad we chose the deluxe package it was well worth it for both of us. We got to ride in a private car which has its own bathroom and a hostess that gave us snacks and drinks and we got a free souvenir cup. They did serve alcoholic beverages for a price. We were able to walk to the open air car so we could take pictures. At the halfway point there was a dinning hall that we were able to get off and eat a lunch buffet.

This was an absolutely amazing trip through the mountains. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a whole day activity. The parlor car experience was wonderful and I would definitely do it again during the different seasons.

What a great experience!! The staff and train personnel were extremely friendly and gave a lot of history about the railroad. Plan on making a day of it and just sit back, don’t get in a hurry, relax and take in the scenery. We definitely will return and do it again.

Very enjoyable train ride from Chalma, NM to Antonito, CO. A one hour bus ride to Chalma started our day. The 90 minute lunch break was a bit long, otherwise we had a great time in the Deluxe cabin

Awesome train ride with lunch and friendly staff. The Antonio portion of the ride is much more scenic than the Chama portion, but either way it’s fun!

If you go from Antonito, only go to the lunch stop, then come back down. We went all the way to Chama, it is a 4% grade down. The brakes were on most of the way. It was extremely loud and smokey. We did see deer and two bears on the way down.
It would have been better starting at Chama and going to Antonito.
