So peaceful and quiet. Even on a 100 degree day it was nice with a cool breeze blowing through what’s left of the giant pine trees. To bad there wasn’t any water flowing in the creek. Also we saw the cows!

Always a great camp. It’s a shame they closed the two trails near here.

It was supper fun quiet place for a weekend away from the city life. Bathrooms are clean and many trails to go on. Getting there is fun too.

End of November, still warm, great firewood opportunities. On a half moon night! 🙂

Half Moon Campground is a gem. Nestled about 12 miles off Lockwood Valley near Frazier Park. There is a vault toilet but it is boarded up. There is no water available here not many people visit this place except for the hunting seasons. It's usually very quiet and limited occupancy. Good place to go and take your family to get away just need to take everything with you. I do have a four-wheel drive but I have seen smaller sedans type cars make it out there but I would be leery of recommending that. I have never needed my 4 wheel drive to get to the spot but feel safe in knowing that that I have it in case I need it.

Beautiful, serene campground. BEWARE the two (at least) water crossings.
The drive in is always beautiful, regardless of the state of the wildflowers along Grade Valley Road. However, the road crosses Piru Creek in a couple of places, with water sometimes up to the top of the hood of our Subaru Forester. The worst is a couple of miles up the road from Half Moon, but the 2nd worst is less than a quarter mile away. Be prepared!
The campground was recently upgraded with concrete vault toilets; they may or may not have TP. No hookups or running water, but if you're camping there, you didn't expect either, did you?
Surprisingly, there is cell service. My guess is that there's line-of-sight somehow to a cell tower high above I-5 in the distance.
The rock formations in the area are spectacular. The sparse pine forest is wonderful, but fire has swept through the area at least a couple times in the last decades.

Love this campground. We used to go there in the 70s. Rarely other campers. Glad it's still a great place.
