I don't come here to hike or any other similar outdoor activity. I come here to stargaze.

I have been coming here since the mid 80s back when it was only dirt and weeds. Now it is paved and very spacious area. It provides good dark skies for stargazing!

There are bathrooms and well maintained. The parking area is spacious and can accommodate any size recreational vehicle.

And often during no moon in sky times, you will find fellow stargazers.

In all my years coming here, I have felt safe and secure. And the Chuchupate Ranger Station is very near by.

Decent hike when the trail is empty, it is all up hill from the parking lot. There are no good trail markers but the vegetation is thick enough not to need any. It is one way so you will double back but the return is easy and down hill. Trail is loose stone and sandy earth that is not compacted producing a moderately difficult treck.

Close to perfect dark spot to set up scope, observe the the clear sky and enjoy astrophotography. Can park the car over parking at trailhead and spend night with intriguing skyview. I was there overnight and able to have a clear view of milky way with bare eyes. Do keep anti-bug spray which could be useful at times. Crowd seems to be friendly making it a safe spot for an overnight camping.

Great trail with [usually] open access to off road in your preferred vehicle. SUPER easy off road run, some of which is even actually paved.

Great place for Star gazing.

Huge parking lot the size of a football field. Easy to find off highway, and lots of other vehicles and campers once you get close. So it's private but not empty or dangerous.

There is literally a Wendy's like 15 minutes away so you won't feel too isolated.

Only thing is arrive by 10PM to see some good dark stars (ensure you're not going when it's a full moon but a new moon aka no moon). Bring jackets, chairs and beverage of choice.

Chill area, seems to be a popular spot for stargazing lately. Empty during the week, which is great if you live in the area. Further up the road is a nice campground too.

Good place to go star gazing and do astrophotography. Relatively dark skies (Bortle 4 I think) and just an hour away from LA.
